Introduction

Aga Khan University chartered in 1983 as Pakistan's first private international university, is committed to the provision of education, research, and health care of international standards relevant to Pakistan and the region. The affiliated Aga Khan University Hospital has well-equipped investigative services and provides state-of-the-art clinical facilities.

The Department of Surgery dedicated Office of Academia and Research in Surgery (OARS) was established in 2016. This office provides support in developing research design and measurement, writing and revising grant applications, assisting in statistical data analysis, editing manuscripts, recruiting research officers and monitoring their activities, allocating and monitoring utilization of department funds for research activities, organizing symposia, selecting and inviting foreign speakers organizing and conducting conferences and workshops and other CME events.

This is a short-term grant-funded contractual position.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible to:
  • conduct thorough literature reviews on AI applications in dentistry, particularly in the context of Decayed, Missing, Filled (DMF) teeth
  • synthesize relevant information and present a concise summary for the journal club
  • collaborate with the team to gather pertinent datasets related to DMF teeth, ensuring data quality and adherence to ethical guidelines
  • implement preprocessing steps to clean and standardize the data for model training
  • assist in developing AI models using large language models for the analysis of DMF teeth data
  • collaborate with senior researchers to fine-tune and optimize model performance
  • engage in regular discussions with team members to share insights, progress, and challenges
  • maintain detailed documentation of the research process, including data sources, model architectures, and experimental results
  • ensure that documentation is organized and accessible to facilitate knowledge transfer within the team
  • ensure adherence to the guidelines and requirements outlined in the grant for the AI projects
  • collaborate with the principal investigator to provide necessary updates for grant reporting
  • maintain a strong commitment to ethical research practices, particularly when dealing with sensitive health-related data
  • tackle challenges that may arise during the research process, employing problem-solving skills and adapting methodologies as needed
  • actively participate in knowledge-sharing sessions within the research group, contributing to the collective growth of the team
  • assist in coordinating tasks and timelines, ensuring that the project progresses according to the outlined schedule
  • prepare and present weekly project-related activity reports.

Requirements

You should have:
  • a Bachelor’s degree in Dentistry or equivalent
  • postgraduate education especially related to research
  • prior research experience, either through academic projects, internships, or relevant work experience
  • one year of experience working in the reputable Healthcare sector.
