Dr Elizabeth Cannon
Dr Cannon is president
emerita and professor, geomatics engineering of the University of Calgary. She
served as the university’s eighth president and vice-chancellor from 2010-2018.
Previously,
she was the dean of the Schulich School of Engineering, and from 1997 to 2002 she held
the NSERC/Petro-Canada Chair for Women in Science and Engineering (Prairie Region). Dr Cannon has led research at the forefront
of Global
Positioning Systems (GPS), commercializing technology to over 200 agencies
worldwide. She is a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, a fellow
of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and an elected foreign associate of the
National Academy of Engineering. Dr Cannon holds a BASc in Mathematics from Acadia
University and a BSc, MSc and PhD in Geomatics Engineering from the University
of Calgary, as well as four honorary degrees.
