The four-year, direct-entry, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) programme aims to equip nursing students with the skills and competencies needed to function in areas such as patient-centered care, teamwork and interprofessional practice, evidence-based practice, quality improvement and use of informatics and technology to enhance the quality of care.
Upon completion of the programme, the graduates will be eligible to enter the nursing profession as intern nurses. After passing the mandatory licensure examination by the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK), they will be required to complete a one-year internship to qualify for the license to practice as professional nurses.
The programme offers need-based financial assistance.
Admissions have closed for 2025 admission cycle. The last date for submission of applications was April 4, 2025.
Eligibility Criteria
Following is the eligibility criteria applicable for 2025:
1. Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE)
A minimum aggregate score of C+ (plus). In addition, a candidate must meet the cluster grades as shown below:
Cluster A: Applicants should possess an aggregate grade of C+ in the following cluster of subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics; and English or Kiswahili.
OR
Cluster B: Applicants should possess an aggregate grade of C+ in the following cluster of subjects: Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Mathematics; and English or Kiswahili.
2. Advanced Level Certificate holders
Minimum entry requirements include 2 Principal passes in Biology and Chemistry, and a subsidiary pass in Mathematics or Physics.
3. International Baccalaureate (IB)
Grade 4 and above in the cluster subjects of Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics or Physics.
Note:
1. Applicants who are writing their certification exams in the summer of 2025 may apply provisionally provided they meet the minimum requirements. However, an official admission letter will only be issued upon submission of final results, which must be received no later than Friday, August 8, 2025.
2. Students who have studied outside East Africa are encouraged to apply. However, apart from those with A-Level and IB qualifications, all other applicants are required to have their academic credentials equated by the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) or the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC). This ensures proper assessment and recognition of their qualifications during the admission process.
3. Individuals with a Diploma in Nursing/Midwifery may apply for admission to the Post RN/M Bachelor of Science in Nursing/Midwifery programmes.
