Dr Tumbwene Mwansisya
Associate professor in Psychiatry and Mental Health
Dr Tumbwene Mwansisya serves as an Associate professor in Psychiatry and Mental Health at the Aga Khan University, School of Nursing and Midwifery and the coordinator of the Psychiatry and mental health nursing course in East Africa. Before joining Aga Khan University, he worked as a lecturer and head of the department of clinical nursing and community health at the University of Dodoma.
Dr Tumbwene Mwansisya serves as an Associate professor in Psychiatry and Mental Health at the Aga Khan University, School of Nursing and Midwifery and the coordinator of the Psychiatry and mental health nursing course in East Africa. He has a Doctor of Medicine (PhD) in Clinical Psychiatry Neuroimaging from Central South University, People's Republic of China. He also has a Master of Science in Mental Health Nursing from Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Bachelor of Science in nursing, both from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Dr Mwansisya has extensive experience in clinical, academics, research and community services. He worked at St. John's House of Hospitality - a mental hospital in Malawi. To date, he has published over 40 peer-reviewed articles in international SCI Journals in the area of Psychiatric neuroimaging, clinical mental reproductive health, non-communicable diseases and community services. In addition, he has taken an active role in several research projects, including the IMPACT project, ALERT project, TWINS project, and KFW project. He has attended several international scientific conferences, most notably ‘unravelling Mental Health through Neuroimaging’, held at Fudan University, Shanghai, China and World Psychiatry conference in Hong Kong.
Moreover, Dr Mwansisya serves as an appointee member of the research committee of the Tanzania Nurses and Midwives Council, research coordinator for the SONAM-Tanzania campus, and member of the Mental Health Association of Tanzania (MEHATA). He has supervised more than 40 bachelor's students and five Master's students from Medical College, Dar es Salaam campus.
