Postdoctoral Fellow

​​Benard Alaka (PhD) is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at BMI where he is leveraging advanced artificial intelligence (AI) techniques, including Computer Vision, to develop innovative brain imaging solutions. By integrating data from MRI, fMRI, and wearable technology, his work seeks to provide deeper clinical insights and enhance research outcomes in neuroscience.

Benard earned his PhD in Computer Science from Strathmore University, where he specialized in ontology learning for dysarthric speech. He also holds a Master’s degree in Information Technology and a Bachelor’s degree in Business IT from the same institution. With a strong background in data engineering and AI, including natural language processing (NLP), speech technology, and computer vision, Benard has served as a lecturer, consultant, and researcher in AI and data-driven solutions.

A passionate advocate for ethical AI, Benard is dedicated to developing culturally sensitive technologies that address humanitarian challenges. His commitment to innovation and excellence has earned him numerous accolades, including the prestigious DAAD PhD Scholarship and recognition as a Grand Finalist in the InSPiR2eS Global Pitching Competition.

Benard has authored over 10 peer-reviewed publications and serves as a peer reviewer for leading scientific journals, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in his field. Beyond his research, he is deeply invested in fostering education and innovation. He volunteers as a board member and judge for the Young Scientists of Kenya forum, inspiring the next generation of innovators and researchers.​
