Benard Ochieng Aliwa
Postdoctoral Fellow
Benard Ochieng Aliwa (PhD) is a scientist dedicated to understanding the biology of diseases at a molecular level. He specializes in advanced techniques to explore how the body works, including research on gut bacteria, chemical processes in the body, and data analysis to uncover important health insights. His work combines various scientific approaches to discover innovative ways to improve health and treat diseases.
At BMI, Aliwa focuses on researching the biological processes behind mental health conditions and dementia. His goal is to identify early warning signs, known as biomarkers, which can help predict and diagnose these conditions sooner. This research supports the development of personalized treatments, improving outcomes for those affected and contributing to better public health.
Aliwa is driven by the opportunity to advance his understanding of mental health and dementia through molecular bioinformatics. By utilizing cutting-edge methods such as multi-omics and biomarker discovery, he seeks to enable early diagnosis, personalized interventions, and improved health outcomes, making a meaningful impact on public health.
He holds a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and a PhD in Molecular Medicine from the Medical University of Graz, Austria. He is also a published author with several papers available
here.
Beyond his research, Aliwa enjoys playing hockey and hiking, activities that reflect his passion for both teamwork and exploring new horizons.
