Caroline Kalondu Kiio is a Research Assistant at the Brain and Mind Institute (BMI). With an academic background in medical sociology and anthropology from the University of Nairobi and training in Leadership and Management of Health Programs from the University of Washington, Caroline brings extensive knowledge and expertise to her role. 

At BMI, Caroline's responsibilities encompass data collection through quantitative and qualitative methods and analysis of the data collected. Her work ensures the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of research data through meticulous documentation and quality assurance processes. She plays a key role in synthesizing research findings through qualitative data analysis and preparation of scholarly publications, ensuring compliance with ethical standards and regulatory requirements.

Caroline has a proven track record in designing and managing health research studies and projects, particularly in maternal healthcare, family planning, HIV/AIDS, and adolescent health. She has extensive experience working with diverse communities, including marginalized populations, and possesses strong cross-cultural skills and sensitivity. Her roles have involved the development and implementation of health interventions, stakeholder engagement, and the training of data collection teams.

As a Program Officer at the International Centre for Reproductive Health Kenya (ICRHK), Caroline spearheaded interventions to improve maternal and family planning services and conducting of third-party monitoring for the FCDO funded family planning project in Kenya. At TechnoServe Kenya, she worked closely with market actors to build capacity and foster collaborations that saw empowerment of communities in selected counties.

Her early career with the Ministry of Health in Kenya involved supporting the Kenya Health Policy Development Secretariat, where she coordinated the development and submission of annual plans and reports, provided administrative and logistical support, and generated monthly reports for the secretariat.

Caroline's key skills include the design and management of health programs and research studies, qualitative research and analysis, stakeholder mapping and engagement, report writing, and the development of study protocols and IRB documents. She is adept at managing and coordinating research studies and health projects.

Caroline’s dedication to improving healthcare and community health through research and her comprehensive skill set make her a valuable asset to the BMI research community.​
