
Geoffrey Gamoyo Katana
Research Associate
As a Research Associate, Geoffrey is involved in data collection, analysis, reporting, and the dissemination of project findings. He collaborates with research stakeholders and provides technical support to researchers in designing and implementing research projects.
Geoffrey is a public health researcher with expertise in epidemiology and disease control. He holds a Master of Science in Public Health (Epidemiology & Disease Control) from Pwani University and a bachelor’s degree in counselling psychology with a minor in Public Health from the University of Eastern Africa, Baraton. His research has included investigating treatment outcomes among tuberculosis (TB) patients, recognizing the significantly higher risk of dementia among individuals with TB compared to the general population.
Before joining the Brain and Mind Institute, Geoffrey worked as the Community Health Strategy Focal Person in Kaloleni Sub-County, Department of Health, Kilifi, Kenya. In this role, he coordinated research partnerships through co-creation and community engagement activities. He also serves as a Board Member of the Kaloleni-Rabai Health Demographic Surveillance System (KRHDSS).
At BMI, Geoffrey provides technical support through training and mentorship in research while pursuing independent research projects under the mentorship of a Principal Investigator. His expertise includes quantitative and qualitative research, notably through his work on the COVID-19 Vaccine Hesitancy study under the PRECISE project in Kaloleni-Rabai.
He is committed to advancing brain health research, particularly in the prevention of dementia through the AFRICA-FINGERS project. His research interests center on understanding dementia and its associated factors using a community-based participatory research approach.
Geoffrey is also a member of the Kenya Health Professions Oversight Authority (KHPOA).
