Dr Litha Mutete Musili is a versatile medical doctor specializing in Psychiatry with a profound commitment to global mental health and public health initiatives. Her career journey spans clinical practice, research endeavors, and leadership roles, reflecting a dedication to addressing mental health challenges, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
Currently serving as a Research Associate at BMI, Dr. Musili leverages her extensive clinical background and research expertise to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of mental health services. Her objective is to drive impactful research, implement evidence-based interventions, and foster mental health awareness and advocacy in East Africa and beyond.
During her tenure as a Psychiatry Resident, Dr. Musili has played a pivotal role in providing care to vulnerable populations, including individuals with mental health disorders, substance use disorders, refugees and victims of gender-based violence. She has spearheaded initiatives aimed at enhancing mental health support for these marginalized groups, leveraging her clinical expertise to offer crisis intervention and therapeutic interventions. Her dedication to serving vulnerable populations reflects her unwavering commitment to equitable access to mental health services and underscores her role as a compassionate advocate within the field of psychiatry.
Dr. Musili’s academic pursuits reflect her holistic approach to healthcare, she holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery Degree and is pursuing a Master of Medicine in Psychiatry and a Master of Public Health from the University of Nairobi. Further, she has undergone various trading in University of Washington including global health research, global mental health and global health policy and advocacy. She has also trained in management and leadership roles at the Kenya School of Government and State University of New York respectively.
