Dr Shanzay specializes in metabolomics with a PhD from the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad, Pakistan. During her doctoral research, she did her fellowship at the School of Medicine, University of California, San Diego, USA where her research was centred around the dual inhibition of glycolysis and glutaminolysis to develop a synergistic therapy for rheumatoid arthritis by exploring untapped phytobiologic(s). She is passionate about exploring multidimensional approaches to establish novel therapeutic interventions for non-communicable diseases. She joined AKU-CRM as a post-doctoral fellow in October 2023 as part of the Wellcome Leap-funded project that aims to develop advanced gene editing therapies for B-thalassemia and Sickle Cell Disease. As part of this project, she is currently leveraging her efforts to establish advanced transient immortalization techniques for the expansion of therapeutically viable numbers of hematopoietic stem cells.
