Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEI&B)
Our Commitment
At the Aga Khan University, we are deeply committed to fostering an environment of equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging across all areas of our institution, including education, health services, research, and administration. We believe that every individual has the right to equal treatment, and we are strengthened by the diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences of our community members. We will create, support and maintain a learning, research and work environment that is free from discriminatory and intimidating behaviour. We believe that developing an inclusive, diverse organisation in which all employees can be their best selves and contribute their unique experiences, beliefs and insights helps us to enhance employee engagement and accelerate our performance. We, as a university stand firmly together against any kind of discrimination and racism towards everyone we work with, including our colleagues and students.
We continue to leverage the Global Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Benchmarks (GDEIB) as a tool to guide AKU’s strategy and create sustainable change. Our strategy aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing), Goal 4 (Inclusive and quality education and promote lifelong learning for all), Goal 5 (Gender Equality), and Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities), driving both direct and indirect contributions to these objectives.
Advancing AKU’s mission, we are committed to:
Prepare our leaders to drive cultural change through transformative education.
Fostering an inclusive and dynamic environment where employees are valued for who they are, feel that they belong, and can build successful careers.
Advocate for fairness, equity, and inclusion at AKU and within the AKU community.
DEI&B Framework
Our framework for strengthening a culture of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEI&B) focuses on three key outlooks, inspired by Global DEI Benchmark Standards.
