​Message from the Programme Director

​The residency training programme in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dar es Salaam campus, is a competency-based program that offers specialist training and education over a four-year period. The residents will be exposed to a blended learning environment with predominant experiential learning, with direct supervision by faculty both at Dar es Salaam campus and in partner institutions. 

The Master of Medicine training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology is a Tanzania Commission of University (TCU) accredited program. The uniqueness of AKU's programs in Dar lies in the quality of training. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology plays a significant role in advancing the mission and vision of AKU and Aga Khan Hospital. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology will champion women's health and safety by providing current evidence-based solutions and excellence in education, research and provision of various quality health services in Tanzania. The faculty members are dedicated to supporting women through all stages of life and work collaboratively with specialists in different departments to provide comprehensive care.

The long-term goal of the program is to contribute to improvement of reproductive health. To achieve this goal, the program aims to educate residents to be competent Obstetricians and Gynaecologists who are capable of providing comprehensive and coordinated care to patients, families and the community. The program emphasizes the acquisition of knowledge of bio-medical, clinical and social sciences, as well as the established and evolving scientific basis of reproductive health.
