​Research at Matiari​

With a decade-long operational history, the Matiari site has established a strong connection with the local community, fostering an excellent liaison. Our presence in the area has brought about significant changes in the community's healthcare-seeking behavior and improved access to healthcare services. The Matiari site has been actively engaged in population-based surveillance, playing a vital role in numerous research projects. These projects have encompassed the surveillance of infectious diseases such as diarrhea, pneumonia, respiratory illnesses, neonatal and maternal sepsis. Notably, community-based trials conducted at the site, focusing on diarrhea and pneumonia, have yielded valuable scientific data that have contributed to evidence-based treatment guidelines endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO).
