Post-RM​ Bachelor of Science in Midwifery 

 

The programme  honours the normalcy of women's lifecycle events, appropriate use of interventions and technology for current or potential health problems. 

Nursing and midwifery preparation believes in consultation, collaboration  and referral with other members of the health care team as needed to provide optimal health care to women and their families. This programme will prepare nurses to provide safe, competent, culturally responsive and quality care at all levels of the health care system with  focus on reproductive, maternal,  new-born and child health for the families and communities by integrating knowledge, skills and attitudes from humanistic, behavioural and natural sciences. ​

Academic Qualifications:

Route A: EM/ECN to RM/RCN to Post-RM BScM

  • Form IV education; “O" level, with a “Credit" in English and Biology or Biological Sciences, a “Pass" in Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics and a Division III minimum aggregate.

  • Certificate of Registration issued by the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council.

  • At least two years working experience as a RM or RCN.

Route B: RM/RCN to Post-RM BScM

  • “A" Level with a “Principal Pass" in Biology or Biological Sciences.

  • You must have a Certificate of Registration issued by the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council.

  • At least two years working experience as Registered Midwives and Registered Comprehensive Nurses are encouraged to apply.

Complete application must include the following:

  1. Completed application form submitted online.

  2. Recent passport-size colour photograph.

  3. Official academic transcripts from your nursing training institution. All documents must be in A4 size; if a copy of the transcript is not available, you must present a certified letter from your training institution.

  4. Enrolment/registration certificate and current practice license (or evidence of renewal) from the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (UNMC);

  5. A copy of your Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) grade 10 / Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) grade 12 or the result slip.

  6. A recommendation form and a letter from your employer (Letter of release) or attach an appointment letter)

  7. Copy of the service certificate from your current or previous employer

Admission to the Aga Khan University School of Nursing and Midwifery is strictly based on merit. Applicants who are selected and are unable to pay for the cost of the education are eligible to apply to the University for the needs-sensitive Financial Assistance. Financial assistance is offered based on demonstrated need as evaluated by the University from data provided by the student, his/her family and other avenues that the University may deem appropriate. It is strongly recommended that every student desirous of receiving financial assistance from the University should thoroughly explore all other possible sources of financing their education. Details of financial assistance application will be made available to successful applicants with the admission offer letter.

The application fee will be paid through bank in favour of “Aga Khan University, Uganda". Cash, - money orders, postal orders and personal cheques are not acceptable. The payment can be made by a demand draft / pay order in favour of “Aga Khan University, Uganda". For payment through bank, the original payment slip must be sent along with the application to the admission office. 

Candidates in Uganda can pay in Uganda Currency through online deposit to any branch of the Diamond Trust Bank Uganda Limited or any DTB agent banking. The bank details are as follows:

The deadline for submitting the application is April 15, 2024

The University does not accept late applications. Please ensure that you have complied with the instructions provided in this information sheet. Incomplete applications will not be processed. It remains the responsibility of the candidate to complete the application requirements according to the published instructions and time schedule. The Admission Office will not send reminders.

Aga Khan University reserves the right to admission; to revoke admission and registration if an application form is discovered to be inaccurate or incomplete  or  if supporting  documents  are discovered to be fraudulent. Any candidate who presents a fraudulent document in support of an application for admission may be identified to other universities and colleges. 

Repeat Applications

Applicants not successful in their first attempt may apply again with additional information supporting their application. A candidate's most recent formal academic qualification will be used for evaluation purposes.

A fresh application together with necessary documentation must be submitted for a particular admission session. The University does not have a policy of automatically carrying forward applications from one cycle to the next.

Provisional Applications

The Aga Khan University will accept provisional applications from candidates who may have documents pending to be submitted, including reference letters or transcripts. All such applications will be evaluated for admission on a provisional basis. To process an application for final selection, applicants will be required to submit their (pending) documents in accordance with the minimum eligibility requirements by the dates specified by the University. In case pending documents are not submitted within the due date as communicated by the admission officer handling your application, the application will stand cancelled.

It is the candidate's responsibility to ensure that pending documents are received in the Admission Office according to the published schedule. Reminders will not be sent from the Admission Office.

The AKU Admission Test

All applicants are required to write the AKU-SoNaM Admission Test scheduled to take place from May 6th- May 31st, 2024. The Test is administered in English and consists of multiple-choice questions in Nursing/Midwifery Knowledge.

Admission Test center will be Kampala.

​Interviews will be held tentatively from May 7th- May 31st, 2024.  Each applicant will meet a panel of two interviewers for approximately half an hour. Applicants should note that interviews are a component of the application process and do not guarantee selection.
