Please click below to read through some of the FAQs received regarding admission to AKU-IED's BEd, MPhil and PhD in Education programmes.​

  • Is there a part-time option available for the programme? If yes, what scheduling options are offered to students enrolled in the part-time programme?
    Yes, a part-time option is available. For students enrolled in the part-time programme, the scheduling options include taking a minimum of two courses per week. These courses can be completed by attending classes either exclusively on Saturdays or by distributing them across weekdays.

  • What is the structure of the part-time BEd programme?
    Part-time BEd students take 2-3 courses per week, either on weekdays or weekends, and finish in a minimum of 2.5 years, while full-time students complete the programme in 1.5 years with 5 courses per week.
     
  • Is the BEd programme also offered online?       
    As of now, we do not offer an online or hybrid programme. All classes will be conducted in face-to-face mode.
     
  • If I am already working in a school permanently, will I be placed in a different school for the practicum?
    No, if you are already employed in a school, you can fulfill your practicum requirements at the same school. However, if you are not affiliated with any school, you will be placed in one of our partner schools.
     
  • What is the total duration of the practicum in hours?
    The practicum totals 240 hours overall. You are required to spend 5 hours per week participating in practicum activities at the assigned schools.
     
  • What is the fee structure of the BEd programme?
    The fee is PKR 22,000 per course, and there are 16 courses in the programme.
     
  • What are the total costs associated with the programme, including additional fees?
    The total tuition fee is PKR 364,000. With additional costs such as graduation fees, student activity fees, health fees, admission fees, and physical examination fees, the programme fee amounts to PKR 480,550. As it is a 1.5-year (18 months) programme, the monthly contribution will only be PKR 26,697.
     
  • I have applied for Higher Education Commission (HEC) attestation, but I might not get the documents back in time to meet AKU's application deadline. Can I still apply for the programme?   
    Yes, you can apply for our programmes by submitting evidence of your application for HEC attestation.
     
  • Can the official transcript be attested by HEC while I await my degree?   
    Yes, AKU accepts HEC attested transcripts only if the degree has not been issued at the time of admissions. The transcript must be attested by the Controller Examinations of the issuing university on the reverse (the photocopy of the transcript may be attested on the front face).
     
  • I only have a transcript as my degree has yet to be issued, am I eligible to apply for the programmes?       
    Yes, you are eligible to apply for the programme with a transcript attested by the HEC, Pakistan.
     
  • I have not had my documents attested by HEC, and I have not applied for attestation yet because I am awaiting my degree and transcripts. Can I still apply for admissions?
    Yes, you can apply for admissions without having your documents attested by HEC at the moment. However, it's crucial that you submit attested copies of your documents before the admission test. Therefore, prioritise initiating the attestation process as soon as you receive your degree and transcripts to meet the Institution's requirements and avoid any delays with your application.​

  • I have 16 years of education but not in the field of Education. Can I apply for AKU-IED's MPhil in Education programme?
    Yes, you can apply for the programme, but you will be required to successfully complete a deficiency course of a minimum of 18 credit hours at the Aga Khan University before the commencement of the MPhil in Education programme.

  • I have done a 1.5-year BEd degree in addition to 16 years of education in an area other than Education. Do I need to complete the deficiency course?
    No, you can directly join our MPhil in Education programme without needing to do the deficiency course.

  • Can students with a four-year BEd degree - which includes practicum experience as part of their course - but have no other work experience, apply for the MPhil in Education programme? 
    Yes, they are eligible to apply.

  • Are candidates with work experience in any field eligible to apply for the MPhil in Education programme?
    Yes, candidates with work experience in any field are eligible to apply for the MPhil in Education programme.

  • Is the MPhil in Education programme offered on weekends or part-time basis? 
    No, at this point in time, our MPhil in Education programmes is offered on weekdays and as a full-time programme.

  • I have applied for Higher Education Commission (HEC) attestation, but I might not get the documents back in time to meet AKU's application deadline. Can I still apply for the programmes?
    Yes, you can apply for our programmes by submitting evidence of your application for HEC attestation.

    No, applicants are required to take AKU's admission test; GAT or GMAT scores are not accepted for the application.

  • I do not live in Karachi. Is there any hostel facility available? 
    We offer accommodation to outstation students in hostels managed by AKU, subject to availability.


  • Can I apply by giving a graduate test like GAT or GMAT?
    No, applicants are required to take AKU's admission test; GAT or GMAT scores are not accepted for the application.

  • Can I apply for a PhD in Education programme with an MBA or MS degree in a different field?
    No, to apply for our PhD in Education programme, you must have 18-years of education in the field of Education, including an MS/MPhil or equivalent degree with a minimum of 30 credits of course and research work after completing a 16-year undergraduate degree in Education or a related field. An MBA or MS degree in a different field will not meet the admission requirements for this programme.
