Duration of Study 

The duration of the Program will normally be four years (minimum). The maximum allowable duration for completion of the M. Med. program is six years. This is subject to the examinations and assessment policies of the university.

Theoretical teaching sessions, such as the common courses and (b) practical experience, as clinical rotations, usually in the clinic, in-patient wards, accident, and emergency department or in the field involving the provision of health care. As in the other PGME programs at AKU, the theoretical courses will be offered concurrently with clinical rotations with the intention of integrating knowledge with practical experience

Successful completion of a dissertation is mandatory for all residents enrolled in the Family Medicine Master of Medicine programme in East Africa. On completion of the first year, residents will be required to identify a research topic. Residents are expected to have developed their study proposals by third quarter of second year of study and obtain approval in accordance with the PGME dissertation rules and regulations. The time for design and execution of dissertation is provided for in the third and fourth years of study.
