Dr. Jasmit S Shah
Biostatistician

Dr. Jasmit S Shah is a biostatistician and Assistant Professor with a primary appointment in the Department of Population Health and a cross appointment in the Department of Medicine. 

He currently serves as a Full Time Faculty (Biostatistician) at Aga Khan University, Nairobi, Kenya. 

Dr. Shah completed his undergraduate studies at the University of South Alabama, Alabama with a summa cum laude in 2009.  He further completed his Masters and Ph.D. in Bioinformatics and Biostatistics from University of Louisville, Kentucky. 

His main area of methodological and collaborative research is in statistical bioinformatics, clinical biostatistics and statistical omics. He is currently working on missing value imputation methods for metabolomics datasets funded by a NIH R03 grant to develop methods and software for missing value imputation coupled with presenting guidelines for how to select the best imputation algorithm in terms of downstream analyses and the resulting biological impact. Dr. Shah has seven publications published in journals such as BMC Bioinformatics, Computational Statistics and American Journal of Physiology. Dr. Shah has also presented his work at multiple places including the Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM), the Eastern North American Region (ENAR) of the International Biometric Society (IBS), and the regional UT-ORNL-KBRIN Bioinformatics Summit. He won first place in the doctoral student category in consecutive years (2015-2016) at the annual Research! Louisville conference.

His collective success at the graduate level has been recently recognized by his receipt of the prestigious Dean’s Citation Award and by his additional nomination for the Guy Stevenson Award for Excellence in Graduate Studies. Additionally, with his tremendous potential, he has been able to grasp many scholarships and awards within his educational career. He won the Best Student in Math and Statistics, 2009 at University of South Alabama and also got awarded the Sushila Mishra Memorial Mathematics and Statistics Scholarship in 2009. Upon his education at the University of Louisville, he achieved Scholarship award from International Center, the University of Louisville in 2009 and 2010. He also won the Travel Award for Southern Regional Council on Statistics (SRCOS) 2013 to allow him to present his research work.
