Education and Research
Apart from therapeutic goals, the department of paediatric cardiology is involved in training and research programs. Currently, our training involves medical students pursuing a paediatric residency training at Aga Khan University, Nairobi, and training is expected to extend further to undergraduate students and nurses working within the department.
The paediatric cardiology department focuses training in the diagnosis, management, treatment and prevention of pediatric cardiovascular diseases based on the core curriculum in pediatric cardiology set by the institution. Apart from structured weekly classes, bedside teachings as well as ward rounds centered around various cardiac cases, is a key learning strategy that the department embraces.
Education of faculty and other medical providers on evidence based cardiovascular medicine is an important aspect within the department of pediatric cardiology.
The faculty also act as key supervisors for residents' dissertations, case reports and abstracts as well as poster presentations.
