Body Cross-Sectional Imaging

The Body Cross sectional imaging section at the Aga Khan University Hospital Nairobi (AKUHN) provides clinical coverage and teaching of radiology residents. Body Imaging encompasses all diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of imaging studies performed on the abdomen and pelvis with CT and MRI being the main cross-sectional imaging modalities. 

Our expertise includes acute as well as non-emergent thoracic, abdominal and pelvic applications including dedicated hepatobiliary, pancreas, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, transplant imaging, cancer staging and vascular applications, cardiac imaging and trauma imaging.

We use state-of-the-art equipment at our facility including a 256 slice multidetector dual energy and dual source CT system with dedicated radiation dose monitoring software, 1.5 and 3 Tesla MR systems.

Imaging Services


We specialize in dedicated and advanced imaging modalities including;

  • Cardiac CT and MRI including calcium scoring and coronary angiograms
  • Diffusion-weighted whole body MRI especially for multiple myeloma imaging
  • Multiparametric prostate MRI
  • MR angiography.

Education and Research


Our faculty members have diverse clinical and research interests and strengths including oncology imaging, vascular and cardiac imaging. 

As a center for excellence in providing radiology services in the region, the Body Imaging section collaborates closely with other sections in radiology and clinical departments and plays highly active roles in clinical practice, continuing medical education, resident training, quality improvement and research.

Current research areas in our section include multiparametric MRI imaging of prostate cancer, cardiac CT and MRI and whole body diffusion MRI for multiple myeloma.
