Message from the Associate Dean
Research & Innovation, AKU-SONAM
Welcome to the Research Unit website of the Aga Khan University School of Nursing and Midwifery. It is my pleasure to introduce you to our activities and our notable research groups.
Founded in 2017 as the Research Unit of AKU-SONAM, we set out with a passionate goal of improving the research culture and portfolio of the School to improve not just the standing of AKU-SONAM in the international world of healthcare research but also to work towards the development and practice of promoting research amongst nurses locally.
Our primary objectives lie in actively assisting SONAM faculty and leadership in their research projects. The projects we undertake cover a wide range of healthcare topics including reproductive health issues, maternal and child health, mental health, palliative heath, oncology, education innovations, evidence-based practices, violence against women, gender discrimination and geriatric health, to name a few.
SONAM's Research unit boasts of a strong applied research program, with vast experience in training undergraduate and graduate students (MSc and PhD) as well as research associates and aspiring researchers. From being founded in 2017 to date, we have actively facilitated our faculty in producing impactful studies for renowned journals and have successfully published 125 research papers. Over the course of these 3 years, SONAM has gathered an intramural funding of US $50,000 and extramural funding of US $13.1 million.
We are devoted to the uplifting of research in nursing and with the assistance of our peers and partners, and we aim to achieve a lot more in the coming years.
Best regards,
Dr Tazeen S. Ali
