Physical Emergency
If you or someone else needs immediate medical attention, please visit the triage counter at the Emergency Room.
Mental Health Crisis
Crisis is defined as a mental health state where you or someone else has an acute risk of harm to self or others. This may be manifested as:
Suicidal attempt or self-injury that requires immediate medical attention
Experiencing suicidal/homicidal/violent impulses or expressing such intent
Aggressive or extremely agitated behavior
An intoxicated state resulting in extremely disruptive behavior, or being unresponsive
If you see someone in a mental health crisis situation immediately call campus security at ext.1900 (or +92 3486 1900 if calling from mobile phone) and ask for the Emergency Response Team.
If you are unsure about the situation, contact the on-call psychiatrist or student psychiatrist at 3090/3091. During office hours, you can also contact the Counselling and Wellness Office at ext. 4456/4301. Stay with the student or trainee till security arrives and escort them to ER.
Urgent Counselling Support
Urgent counselling appointment is provided same day or within 24 hours by the Student Counsellor when students reach out themselves or are referred for immediate support for a mental health emergency. Such situations may include, but are not limited to:
- Talking about harming oneself or others, or evidence of self-injury
- Experiencing a recent traumatic event that requires sensitive attention
- Serious noticeable changes in mood, thoughts, perceptions and/or behavior
For further understanding of situations requiring urgent intervention, please refer to Section 2 of the mental health crisis algorithm. When setting up an appointment that is urgent, please highlight that in the subject title of your email.
