​​Head and Neck Surgery

The Head and Neck Surgery fellowship is a structured training programme with rotations planned to to produce independent Head and Neck Surgeons incorporating not only surgical skills, but also an understanding of the non-surgical aspects of oncological principles (including chemotherapy and radiotherapy).

The programme aims to train fellows to: 

  • Understand and appreciate Head and Neck Oncological surgery in a multidisciplinary field
  • Learn to apply the knowledge base to utilise the multimodal therapies at different stages in a Head and Neck oncology patients
  • Acquire expertise in critical care management of these patients​

Fellow is expected to attend all the ORs and be on call on every 4th day for head & neck emergencies.


  • MBBS from an institution recognised by PMC, with minimum score of 55 per cent and above
  • One year internship / house job
  • Five year Residency training in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery
  • FCPS Part II in ENT or Equivalent – desirable

 

The selection process includes advertisements in national newspapers. The candidates will be interviewed by faculty members.​

Our section has very high volume of head & neck cancer surgery which includes reconstruction. We have five head & neck surgeons and two plastic surgeons.

The fellowship is a one-year programme, which includes rotation with different Head and Neck surgeons on a two-monthly basis, two weeks rotation each in Plastic Surgery, Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology.

It is a first Head & Neck Surgery  Fellowship program in Pakistan. Trained Surgeons will have many opportunities in Pakistan and abroad.​

This is based on two monthly written examinations and continues assessment.​

Fellow is encouraged to actively participate in research and expected to produce at least one article and present his/her work in international conferences, for which funding is available from PGME and department.
