The Department of Ophthalmology offers a four-year residency programme that is fully accredited by the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan (CPSP). The residency programme offers an opportunity to join in FRCS training programme. Two residents are selected each year; they receive exposure to general and specialised areas within Ophthalmology, and they are provided with opportunities to participate in surgical simulations and hands-on trainings. This is a structured academic programme that includes opportunities to learn via our foundational module series and customised lectures from faculty. There are also opportunities to participate in case presentations, grand rounds, journal clubs and research. The programme is moving to a competency-based curriculum. Dr Abdul Sami Memon, recent recipient of an outstanding teacher award, is the director of the residency programme.
Fellowship Programme
There are plans to start a retina fellowship programme in 2023. The department will also be considering other fellowship programmes in the future.
