Research and Development
The department of pathology and laboratory medicine at the Aga Khan University is committed to fostering research by a unique mix of clinical and research faculty. It has been engaged in clinically applied research for many years and is enriched by the presence of faculty who have demonstrated excellence in conducting research and training residents and PhD students. The research focuses primarily on the biology, genetics, and immunology of infectious disease, cancer and metabolic disorders. Programmes in mycobacterial infections, antimicrobial resistance and health care associated infections are well established. Our faculty employs multi-disciplinary and state-of-the-art approaches to study the basis of disease at the molecular, genetic and cellular levels, with a strong core of experienced and dedicated research managers, technical supervisors and core staff to support research operations.
We are, therefore, uniquely positioned to bring innovations in translational research, clinical practice and education by bridging clinical and basic sciences research.
