Humanities and Social Sciences
At AKU, we strive for holistic development of an individual and believe that study of Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) is the essential backbone to a well-rounded medical education as it inculcates the appreciation of the self and the other.
While humanities and social science have been taught to our undergraduate medical students through Islamic and Pakistan Studies (requirements set by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council) since the inception of the Medical College, HASS has gradually evolved into a 6-week structured module offering a
variety of courses.
The overall objective of HASS is to develop sensitive, reflective, ethical and critical thinking members of society, who understand, respect and accommodate diversity/differences.
HASS is a mandatory module for all first year medical students at AKU's Medical College. Each student is required to study three (3) compulsory and three (3) elective courses in this module. Of the three electives, one would be an academic course, one language and one an art-related course.
The courses being offered this year are listed below.
